Match report Apologies as this report is being written a few days late so consequently most memory is foggy so sorry if any detail is wrong.

Dani’s Diamonds were playing away at St Cross, a lovely ground, if slightly on a canter with the interesting phenomena of a tree within the boundary on one side (more about that later).
The weather was ok, not sunny but not cold. Dani won the toss! Maybe that was an omen… and we went in to bat. A tricky game for the team, the upside being everyone got to bat (always think of the positives), Freya was definitely the star batter in this match, facing around 40 balls, getting four 4s and eventually being bowled out for an LBW but not before getting 33 runs, nearly half the runs for the entire team – well played Freya! Emily M looked like she was on a winning streak with two consecutive 4s but then run out, by (we have to give the opposition credit here) the flukiest but most amazing throw hitting the stumps from a long way away. Bad luck Emily. Sadly our wickets fell relatively quickly and we were all out for 67.
We all enjoyed tea (always good at St Cross! If only it would be ok for the scorers to have a gin and tonic at the same time but I suspect the score may then not be accurate…) and then Portsmouth in to bowl. Evie and Emily M opening but the wicket was elusive. Emily Newman, the babe of the team, was rolled in and bowled out their star batter who was rocketing out 4s, so well done Emily. The forementioned batter was whacking the ball to the boundary repeatedly, poor Isla had the pleasure of chasing it down hill trying to avoid said tree in the middle of the pitch while attempting to stop the ball reaching the boundary, Lara having to run up hill to do the same, no tree that way though. The game was soon over, we lost by 9 wickets. That’s life ladies, always more to learn about the beautiful game, as they say ‘that’s cricket’. Onwards and upwards.
