Match report A bit of a mismatch tonight against a side that were packed with District players and should be playing in the A league, but I hope that the kids weren't discouraged - there were positives to take for Portsmouth here. With the U17s in the middle of the ground we were squeezed onto a makeshift pitch rolled just 10 minutes before we were due to start - the pitch didn't play too badly so many thanks to Rick for helping to get the game on given the fixtures mash.

Purbrook won the toss and chose to bat, their openers making headway against Sam T and James to take them to 40-0 after the first pair, a rate that Purbrook kept up throughout excepting some tight overs from Jude, Emily and James Vick. Jude recorded our best figures, his prize to come back for a third over and get hit for 20 runs by their County player. Purbrook 199-7.

In reply, runs were harder to come by though Sam T negotiated some hostile bowling early on. Wickets started tumbling, with Portsmouth sliding from 50-2 to 74-9 within 6 overs. Andrew backed up really well to create extra runs, and Lucas hit a welcome boundary. With the game already decided, James and Jude were stoic in the face of more quick bowling from Purbrook, James memorably pulling their best player for 4 just after being sconed by a short ball.

Well kept at it by Portsmouth, and note that we've got the same team away next Monday.
