Match report Match report 28th May 23 PCC vs Ropley
It was a gloriously sunny day, just what spectating cricket should be about. Less good when you are playing but hey, that’s cricket!
We lost the toss (recurrent theme Dani?? 😊) and went in to bat, Dani and Maya opening. It was a strong start but sadly Maya was caught earlier than deserved, followed by Lauren being bowled out shortly after. Shayna was next in with the challenge of getting 50 runs or she had to walk home. A valiant effort and stayed in for about 6 overs (struggling to tell the colours on the score sheet – sorry for any inaccuracies!), the first of the ‘Who can boil their heads in a cricket helmet the most competition’. Dani won, she was still in and Shayna was out with 32 runs for the partnership (I think, roughly this, once again blame the eye sight). Next in was Emma, a good effort, but sadly caught out but not before getting 17 in the partnership. Next in was Evie for the ‘Cook your head’ competition. Strategy was formed, Evie to hit shorts and get Dani back to facing. It worked, she was in for 11 overs and they had a partnership of 68 runs, well done Evie, great team work. At one point the scorer asked why they hadn’t gone for 2 and she was sagely advised by Lauren, ‘Simple, Dani can’t run as fast as Evie’. Fair cop 😊. Eventually Dani was stumped out with a final score of 85 runs (Evie advises the author Dani was caught but I wrote stumped in the score book so sorry if I got it wrong Dani!) Well done Dani, you are truly a star. In came Florie, then Evie was caught and Florie and Daisy played to the end of the over, not out. Special mention should go to Ruby Mae who stood, kitted up in the hot sun waiting to go in but then never needed to, thanks Ruby-Mae 😊. Innings over with a score of 151 to chase, nice work girls.

So, a short break to try to get everyone’s core temperatures down to 37 degrees again from about 45 (perhaps they should play in whites although I suspect polyester whatever colour is sweaty) then in to bowl. Ruby Mae opened in a partnership with Evie. Although no wickets a good average of less than 5 runs per over against their best batters. Then secret weapon, Shayna, was rolled in (knowing she had to do well or was walking). It was the day of the spinners it had to be said, Shayna did her stuff, taking a fantastic five-fer in total (and got her lift home with Lauren), along with 2 maidens and a double-wicket maiden. Fast bowler Maya took another. Then Immy came into play. The starring over was when she took 3 wickets in one over (that was very difficult for the scorers to keep track of!) but was amazing to watch, well done Immy, that was brilliant. She also had a maiden over as her last over just to really show her skills. Rosie was in the last bowling pair and although no wickets gave away few runs. Special mention to Lauren and her continued determination to stop balls getting to the boundary by throwing her entire body at them, the best diver by far.
The final score 102 to Ropley all out. Great victory girls, well deserved, especially considering the heat.
