Match report Another gloriously sunny day for Dani’s Diamonds to take on the world, well Ropley at least. It started with Dani wandering to the middle of the field to attempt to partake in the infamous ‘ coin toss’ for which we abuse her on a weekly basis. The team were all awaiting to hear we had lost when in the distance we saw her jumping around with her fists in the air – she had won!!! Portsmouth to bat first, what a novelty to have the choice!
Dani and Emily started the game, the others sat back to sunbathe. Sadly Emily was out quickly, then Maya in but also caught out prematurely. Then walks in Jo ‘wonder bat’ C onto the crease. The joy of writing the match report gives me total power on who to say is player of the match and I give it to Jo C. It was Thursday by the time she was eventually bowled out, having faced about 70 balls (my recording may not be accurate..) and about 25 overs, scoring 6 4s. She faced only 2 less balls than our beloved leader who we expect to get all the runs for us.
Dani did get 50 ( well done Dani 😊) Shayna, Lauren, Kristy and Georgia all adding to the total final score of 127 from the full 35 overs. Evie, Lara and Alexis (welcome Alexis, great to have you on the team 😊) went for the tan instead.
A quick rest out of the blazing (and I am not exaggerating this time) sunshine then we went into bowl.
Evie opened, and decided to do it in style, bowling out their number one player on her 4th ball and having her first ever wicket-maiden (well done Evie 😊). Shayna didn’t want to be outdone and got a maiden on her first over as well, leaving the score for the opposition on two overs of 0 runs and 1 wicket – nice (shouldn’t gloat but they won’t read this). Evie and Shayna continued their pair with Shayna getting another wicket, then Emily and Maya came in to bowl. What can I say, it was awesome. Emily lost only 5 runs on 5 overs and got 3 wickets, one wicket maiden and another maiden over. Maya was on fire, one maiden over, 1 wicket bowled and caught two others which were bowled by Georgia, well done girls, it was fantastic to watch. If I hadn’t already given player of the match to Jo C I would now be giving it to you two 😊. Lauren managed to get one over bowled before Georgia’s final over where she got the last wicket and the opposition were all out for 71 from 27 overs. It is fair to say it was a stunning win.
Alexis and Lara, no glory roles this week but thanks for fielding and playing as we need 11 players so can’t do it without you. Well played all, great match to watch and cheer, Dani’s Diamonds do it again 😊
