Match report Contrasting with last week’s game, this time the setting was quintessentially English cricket, beautiful sunny day, sat in the cricket pavilion, electronic scoring board – you don’t appreciate these things till they are not there.

Today’s match was against Basingstoke. Guess who won the toss? Not Dani. So Basingstoke chose to bat. Evie and Shayna were put in as the opening bowlers, fast and spinning both with strong bowling. Evie had a maiden over, Shayna a wicket-maiden over getting the first wicket for LBW, great start ladies.
The next wicket fell with a phenomenal throw in from Lauren to get a run out and then Lauren and Emily came into bowl. They turned it into their own personal competition of ‘Who can get the most wickets?’, Emily was in the lead for a while with 3, 2 off one over again (just missing out on that hat trick for a second week) so Lauren turned up the heat, 2 maiden overs, one being a wicket maiden, and as ‘piéce de resistance’ 2 more wickets in her last over and that was that, all bowled out. Fantastic play ladies, it was a marvel to watch. Georgia (welcome to the team 😊) bowled an over as our 5th bowler but due to Emily and Lauren finishing off the opposition, sadly didn’t get a second one to bowl, next time I am sure! All bowled out for 45, so the team felt quietly confident they could beat that.

Yet another wonderful tea, this time by Jai, thank you 😊 (loved the scones!) so with full bellies, Dani and Harriet padded up and padded out to the wicket. Jo F and Maya prepped then sweated while the rest of the team lay back and just sunbathed. As I said, it was a true cricket day! It did take into the sixth over to achieve the score but it was over pretty quick really. Dani only got seven 4s (2 off no balls!) so did have to run for 10 whole runs! Great batting by Harriet and both stayed in till the score was reached, Dani finishing in style with a final 4, nice one! Jo C and Lara, thank you for fielding, you didn’t get the glory roles but did all the hard work in stopping the runs!

Well done ladies, great game, lovely weather (Dani, can you sort that for every match please😊) lovely food, just what the game is about. Not to mention the additional game afterwards with interesting fielding especially the ‘shared role of wicket keeper with Evie and Shayna having 1 glove each…’ and Emily’s new ‘hard hat’ being a green bucket hat. Nice!

Thanks again for umpiring Martin, once again without a daughter even playing, but at least this time you didn’t freeze 😊
