Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2025 Lost

Match report Another sunny-ish day, but at least not freezing, down at St Helens. It was rematch against Yateley, but this time at home for us.

Yateley won the toss, potentially a good sign for us and our omens, and we were put into bat. Bravely Lolly and Chloe opened and truly unluckily Lolly was out for LBW in the first over– robbed! Freya walked in and was bowled out in the 2nd over, the faces of the Portsmouth team were a bit worried. HM Jo Chan walked up to the crease, our hearts in our mouths, could she deliver how we expected – of course she could! She played her strong game delivering 32 runs for the team with 7 4s – well done Jo. During that time good partnerships with Emma, who looking at the stats faced 37 balls (if I’m reading this right) and then also Evie who gained the second highest runs for the team – again! Once again her lucky number of 19! The opposition had good bowlers and methodically worked their way through our players and we were eventually all out for 102 at 25 overs.

A lovely tea was supplied by Emily (thank you 😊) and mindful munching on scone and jam occurred. Then our turn to bowl. To say it started well is a bit of an understatement. Freya must have been in quite a vengeful mood taking 2 wickets in her first 3 balls – OMG Freya, it was phenomenal! Maybe we weren’t all done for after all. However, despite tight bowling following this and lots of running to the boundary to prevent many 4s, we couldn’t quite get their next players out. Consequently it didn’t take long for them to beat us on the 18th over. Our one consolation is that they did win the league, so not a bad team to lose to. It was nice and warm and hopefully fun was had by all.

We are safe in the middle of the league, not going down, so hey, a good season, now enjoy the crazy world of the slam competition!
