Portsmouth Cricket Club - 2024 Lost by 7 wickets

Match report It was a beautiful sunny Wednesday evening and New Milton had kindly driven for over an hour to come to play against us in the cup match. They brought a strong team full of county players so it was always going to be a challenge.
We won the toss (Dani isn’t under 16 so we were safe 😊) and we went in to bat, Maya and Emily opening. A good start, sadly Maya bowled out but Emily stayed in and was joined with Vi and both had to retire not out as they were in for the next 10 overs (or I think that was why they had to, the rules are a bit crazy for these 100 ball games, one would argue why make an already complicated game more complicated still, but hey, that’s cricket!) We only lost 2 wickets and scored 103 runs, a reasonable score to chase.

New Milton came in to bat with 2 very strong batters and despite good bowling it was difficult to get them out. Breakthrough came when Maya ran out a player with a stunning throw, well done Maya, and also then bowled out another. A third went when run out by Viola. There was some very accurate throwing from the deep field and a stunning couple of throws, one from Emma from the boundary, one from Millie onto the stumps just missing out on getting a run out.
We were defending 103, it was a very tight finish into the last over but New Milton were successful. They were a strong team so despite not winning it was a strong performance and a very close game. Remember, joy may come from victory but greatness comes from what we learn from defeat. Well played girls 😊
